｢Lavallière｣はフランス語で、｢大型の蝶結びネクタイ｣を意味し、現在では幅広のネックウェアである｢アスコットタイ｣と同じネックウェアと考える傾向があります。日本では｢ラヴァリエ、ラバリエ、ラバリエール｣などと発音されます。
当ブランドでは、作り結びタイプで尚且つ短い寸法のラバリエールに関しては、ショートラバリエールという名称で、幅広な蝶ネクタイの１つとして分類しています。｢スモールショートラバリエール｣と｢ショートラバリエール｣は、さらにサイズによって分類しています。
歴史上は19世紀後半から20世紀初頭の、欧米の著名な紳士の写真などに時どき確認できますし、ヴィクトリア期(1837年〜1901年)の女性向けネックウェアとしては、縁取り装飾などが施されたりしたものが、比較的に人気だったようです。
ショートラバリエール形は、20世紀初頭からチャロ(Charro)と呼ばれるメキシカン・カウボーイの、スーツスタイルに採用されてきたようです。現在はマリアッチと呼ばれる、伝統音楽のミュージシャン達の衣装としても広く知られ、華やかな刺繍や装飾を施したものが普及しています。スクエアエンド(四角端)の他に、ポインテッドエンド(鋭角端)があります。
また、スモールショートラバリエール形は、現代の日本では、会社の女性社員や女子学生のためのユニフォームとして採用されており、とてもよく目にする形です。スクエアエンドの他にも、ポインテッドエンドとラウンドエンド(円形端)があります。
